The Japanese group Yaskawa invests in Viladecans and expects to double sales

The industrial robotics company is setting up in an old automotive components factory and expects to bill 30 million euros in 2027 thanks to increased demand and the development of new robots

The Japanese company Yaskawa has opened new facilities this Thursday in Viladecans (Baix Llobregat), where it has launched one of the largest workshops it has in Europe. The firm, a pioneer in robotics and industrial automation, hasinvested 3 million eurosin a 3,500 m² warehouse. The surface area triples the space it previously occupied in the neighboring municipality of Gavà. "We were very clear that we absolutely wanted to stay in Catalonia, where we have been since 1997," said the director of Yaskawa Ibérica, Laurent Bodin, who sees in Viladecans "the necessary capacity to deploy the growth plan." Yaskawa Ibérica's ambition isto go from the current 15 million euros in turnover to reaching 30 million in 2027.Yaskawa has set up in a warehouse formerly used by an automotive components company. The Japanese multinational states that the 1,000 m² they occupied in their factory in Gavà had become too small for them. After searching for a suitable space for three years, they finally opted for Viladecans, where they rented a 3,500 m² warehouse. The workshop occupies 2,600 m², making it one of the company's largest. The rest of the space is dedicated to development offices, commercial departments, and training rooms, reportsACN. Bodin has pointed out that the objective was to stay in Catalonia to "consolidate the relationship already established with Catalan clients." The intention was to relocate the company a short distance from where it was until now due to its proximity to Barcelona and El Prat Airport, but also "to not lose employees." "The value of the company is very linked to technical capacity, but especially to commercial capacity," he highlighted. The new headquarters of Yaskawa Ibérica began operating at the end of last year, although it has been fully operational since this May. Initially, it does so with 40 workers, although the management takes for granted that they will progressively expand the workforce due to the forecast of continuing to grow in the development of new robots.

Bodin has indicated that the company's growth plan foresees reaching 2027 by doubling the current turnover of 15 million. "And with this facility, we have the necessary capacity to achieve it," he celebrated, while highlighting that the workers have a more comfortable space compared to the previous facilities. With the new headquarters, the management of Yaskawa Ibérica has committed to contributing to the reduction of CO₂ within the framework of its activity. In this sense, it plans to install solar panels and adhere to the VilaWatt project, promoted by the Viladecans City Council to create an energy community based on the energy generated by the companies in the municipality.
