Barcelona is one of the European capitals of design where textile tradition, creativity, and a vision for the future constantly meet. In our city, every year we encounter the presence of major international catwalks, strategic business meetings, and initiatives that promote sustainability, emerging talent, and local craftsmanship.

But beyond these major events, fashion is also a mirror of the moment we live in: a sector where creativity coexists with the urgent need to redefine how we produce, how we consume, and how we understand identity and local talent.

The 080 Barcelona Fashion, the most international fashion event

One of the great fashion events is, without a doubt, The 080 Barcelona Fashion. The first edition took place in 2007 and, since then, it has become the most international fashion platform that bets on the transformation of the sector through creativity and innovation. Here, social changes regarding fashion are also taken into account, and current values such as sustainability, circularity, or diversity of the industry are integrated to create a space for dialogue and reflection on fashion to find new forms of consumption and expression.

Driven by the Generalitat de Catalunya, this catwalk has become the great showcase for prêt-à-porter, urban, designer, and sustainable fashion, with the participation of well-known designers and brands such as Custo Barcelona, Antonio Miró, Simorra, Dominnico, Luar, Txell Miras, or Avellaneda, among many others.

The 2026 edition is taking place this week, from October 20 to 23, at Marina Vela, in Barcelona's Port Vell. It will feature 26 fashion shows with consolidated brands and firms with international projection, along with emerging talent. Furthermore, as Moisés Rodríguez, director of the Consortium of Commerce, Crafts and Fashion, said at the press conference, "The 080 reinforces the Government's commitment to circularity, creativity, and craftsmanship. And this is the best expression of a dynamic, innovative sector rooted in the territory."

Within the framework of La 080, there are some considerably new initiatives that follow this trend more linked to current events. This is the case, for example, of 080 REBORN, a parade that champions second-hand clothing by promoting its reuse, as well as the treatment of textiles to extend the life of clothes. This initiative is carried out jointly with Girbau LAB and the Agència de Residus de Catalunya, under the creative direction of Fermín&Gilles, and it is one of the most unique and innovative branches of the catwalk. The first edition of this initiative took place in 2022 and, since then, it has become an essential meeting within the event.

Another of La 080's commitments (and this will be its second edition) is 080_BeyondsCrafts, an alliance with Artesania Catalunya, presented as an "ode to craftsmanship." The objective of this initiative is to reflect on the creative processes of current craftsmanship and how it relates to fashion and culture.

For the 2026 edition, the focus of artisanal work is on footwear manufacturing and, for this reason, the title of the proposal is 080_BeyondCrafts: Ceci n'est pas. We will see a review of shoe making ranging from traditional espadrilles to digital manufacturing; a journey of almost a century of history that will show us how footwear is reinterpreted in current craftsmanship.

A curiosity: the name 080 is totally linked to the city of Barcelona. And that is because 080 is the city's postal code, so La 080 is our homegrown fashion event.

The bridal fashion sector at Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week (BBFW)

The Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week (BBFW) is one of Barcelona's other most prominent fashion events. However, it specifically focuses on a very particular niche within the sector: bridal fashion. It is one of the most consolidated gatherings in the city, as its first edition took place in 1991 and, since then, it has been held annually in April at Fira de Barcelona.

Some of the world's most influential fashion names have walked its runway, such as the British firm Vivienne Westwood, the Lebanese designer Elie Saab, and the French haute couture master Stéphane Rolland. National designers have also participated, including the Barcelona firms Rosa Clarà and Pronovias.

The 2027 edition will take place from April 14 to 18 and, in addition to its usual runway proposal, the next edition will feature new spaces dedicated to dissemination and professional networking. Albasarí Caro, director of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, states that "BBFW evolves at the same pace as fashion. We actively listen to creators, buyers, and prescribers from all markets to anticipate the trends that are transforming bridal fashion."

The Fashion Shows (the runways themselves) will take place on April 14 and 15 at Fira's palace 8. And, afterwards, the Trade Show will be held in palaces 1 and 2, a space that will bring together the main international bridal brands. This new format allows buyers and professionals to connect and create a more efficient and productive commercial space. In addition, the 2027 edition will also feature a pilot project: BBFW Talks, informative meetings that analyze the market with round tables, presentations, and debates led by major industry figures.

Spain is the second largest exporter of wedding dresses worldwide and, for this reason, BBFW is one of the most prominent platforms to showcase the strength of the national market. And, in fact, around 43% is designed and produced in Catalonia. Therefore, the organization is also committed to local and emerging talent through alliances with schools such as ESDI, LCI Barcelona, and IED Barcelona.

Sustainable Fashion Fest, sustainable fashion

Sustainability in fashion is one of the great challenges that the industry wants to achieve and, in this sense, in 2024, the first edition of the Sustainable Fashion Fest (SFF) emerged in Barcelona. In November 2025, this event inaugurated its stage in Madrid and, currently, it is a meeting that takes place doubly in both cities.

It is an international festival specialized in sustainable fashion that supports national and international designers. Technology, awareness, and creativity go hand in hand in this festival where there are fashion shows and conferences to reimagine fashion from a more sustainable vision. Current topics such as, for example, the presence of artificial intelligence in the sector are discussed in its talks with international speakers, immersive experiences, and runways.

Designers, brands, manufacturers, and investors come together in this initiative that advocates for more ethical and responsible fashion. The objective they pursue is to drive a change in the production and consumption model, taking into account premises such as sustainability, innovation, and economic viability. This annual meeting aims to showcase real alternatives to current fashion consumption, the so-called fast fashion, as well as to educate about the impact of fashion and to highlight brands with environmental and social commitment.

Barcelona Fashion Summit, the professional debate forum

The Barcelona Fashion Summit (BFS) is a debate forum and a professional meeting of the fashion sector that has been held in our city since 2012. Since then, this event takes place every year, bringing together national and international leaders of the fashion business, such as Toni Ruiz (CEO of Mango), Jaume Miquel (president and CEO of Tendam), Óscar García Maceiras (CEO of Inditex) or Adriana Domínguez (president of Adolfo Domínguez).

Unlike other fashion events, at the Barcelona Fashion Summit there are no fashion shows. It is not an event to see clothes, but a high-level business and corporate strategy forum. Its operation is similar to that of an economic congress or a business summit and, each year, the Summit is organized around a central theme, such as supply chain challenges, artificial intelligence, generational handover, or profitability. The debates revolve around the economics of fashion and address issues related to strategy, business, sustainability, regulation, technology, and macroeconomics.

The event lasts only one day and usually includes keynote speeches by experts in macroeconomics or executives from large consulting firms, such as McKinsey or BCG, who open the day with data and graphs on the state of the global market. Afterwards, round tables are usually held where four or five CEOs or general managers of competing brands (for example, the heads of Mango, Tendam, and Desigual) meet to debate and contrast opinions on a common challenge.

The 2027 edition of the Barcelona Fashion Summit will take place on January 28, 2027 at the Palau de la Música Catalana, under the title Time to fly: looking towards the future of fashion. During the day, the growth and profitability of the industry will be analyzed, as well as ways to grow and expand activity and to leverage new technologies to optimize efficiency.

Fashion fairs and exhibitions

The largest textile fair also takes place in our country: Barcelona Textile Expo. This fair is organized at Fira de Barcelona and usually coincides with the celebration of 080, that is, at the end of October. More than three hundred exhibitors from more than a dozen countries meet at this event designed to establish commercial relationships between manufacturers and buyers.

At the Barcelona Textile Expo, all kinds of products can be found: from fabric to threads, finished products or home textiles. By being in direct contact with the manufacturer, more competitive prices can be achieved at this fair, and it allows anticipating the next trends in the industry. Countries such as Turkey, India, China, Italy, Spain, Japan or Egypt are those that usually participate in this annual meeting. The 2026 edition takes place this very week, from October 21 to 23, where the latest fashion trends for autumn/spring 2027/2028 will be unveiled.

The Barcelona International Textile Show (STIB) is also an essential textile fair for the sector. This is where designers and brands select and buy the raw materials and fabrics they will use for their next creations. It is a show that features more than three hundred internationally prestigious collections, especially with a strong presence from Italy and France. Buyers will be able to find silks, premium cotton, high-quality wool or the latest advances in technological and sustainable fabrics.

It is not a fair open to everyone: access is exclusive to professionals in the sector and can only be entered by invitation. For two days, this professional meeting offers showrooms, spaces for networking and for product purchase. It is organized twice a year to cover the calendar seasons: the first edition is usually held in February, to present the autumn/winter season, and the second is held in September to present the spring/summer season.

The origin of these meetings can be found in the 90s when Intergroup began to exhibit collections at the Hotel Majestic in Barcelona. From there, other meetings were formed, such as the one organized by GTRC, at the Hotel Condes de Barcelona, or that of IdeaVisión, at the Hotel Avenida Palace. Over time, the salon grew and now, with almost more than twenty editions behind it, it is organized in the Sala Port Vell of the World Trade Center of Barcelona.

The emerging fashion incubator: Barcelona Fashion Forward

From the Barcelona City Council through the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB), Disseny Hub Barcelona and the collaboration of Barcelona Activa, a program has been promoted that drives and accompanies emerging fashion designers and brands. This is the Barcelona Fashion Forward which aims to support and help optimize the processes for people who want to professionalize in the industry.

The program is divided into two phases. On the one hand, training and mentoring consisting of informative capsules and personalized mentoring that take place over 5 months for a maximum of 15 participants. On the other hand, the second phase consists of the design of a tailor-made service plan for the four brands or designers who have been selected in phase 1. This second phase lasts for 6 months and is more focused on improving aspects such as commercialization, communication, or digitalization.

The program is aimed at freelancers or companies from Barcelona that specialize in the design and manufacture of textile products, footwear, or accessories. Among the evaluation criteria for entering the program, aspects such as creativity and sustainability are taken into account. As Mireia Escobar, director of Creative Industries (ICUB) and DHUB, stated, "Every year more companies apply to the call, figures that reflect that the program really works and represents a turning point for brands."

The PLEC platform of the Barcelona City Council: the great novelty of 2026

The Barcelona City Council has just presented PLEC, a platform for fashion culture that has been created within the framework of the Strategic Fashion Plan 2025-30. The objective is to present fashion as a cultural, creative, and citizen infrastructure that goes beyond the catwalk and aims to connect the sector with the daily life of the population.

Nàdia Quevedo, commissioner for Economic Promotion, Commerce, Restoration and the Fashion Plan of the Barcelona City Council, said that “Barcelona has a powerful creative tradition, its own scene, emerging and also consolidated talent that needs to be boosted and positioned, and with the PLEC, from the Barcelona City Council what we want to do is precisely that, to value and connect all the disciplines we have in our city, the creative industries and deploy it throughout Barcelona. Let's make the front row of fashion also for the citizens.”

Let's make the front row of fashion also for the citizens.

For this reason, this October and, coinciding with 080 Barcelona Fashion, two actions will be carried out in the city: PLEC- Barcelona Cultura de la Moda vol. 1, as a fashion festival, and PLEC the 080 on screen, as an audiovisual action. The first of the actions is an experience that links image, music, art, performance and conversation to talk about the tradition of fashion in Barcelona and about new creations. This action, curated by Francesca Tur, futures analyst, communicator and creative consultant, will take place on October 21 and 22, 2026 from 6 p.m. at the Tinglados del Port Vell.

Between the need to find new sustainable production models, the promotion of emerging talent and support for commercialization, the textile and fashion sector in the city has the challenge of consolidating international leadership without losing connection with the territory.
