The Government creates discount vouchers for tourist getaways in Catalonia

They will allow saving up to 50% of the travel bill for trips made between March and April, not including Easter Week

The tourism sector is gradually reactivating after the impact of the pandemic, which has particularly affected them. Proximity travel has been the main pillar of this recovery, with a generalized preference for visiting local destinations that previously went more unnoticed, also motivated by restrictions that prevented going further.

To help the sector overcome this crisis and continue promoting proximity tourism and tourism deseasonalization, the Department of Business and Labor, through the Catalan Tourism Agency (ACT), has created discount tourism vouchers that can be used for trips made this spring. The Government will allocate a total of 1.5 million euros to the Estalviatge initiative, which it expects to translate, at a minimum, into 10,000 reservations. It will also multiply its effect through the spending generated for other agents in the sector.

The vouchers will allow savings of up to 50% of the travel bill, for a maximum amount of 150 euros. Trips can be made starting March 1 and will extend through April, excluding Easter Week ---from April 9 to 18---, until the budget is exhausted. Residents of Catalonia over 18 years of age can benefit, and only one voucher can be used per person.

Reservations must be made through travel agencies adhering to the campaign. Currently, 250 companies have already joined. The vouchers will be valid for combined trips, which must include an overnight stay in tourist accommodation associated with the purchase of a transport ticket or the rental of a vehicle for the journey. It will also be possible to combine it with activities such as guided excursions or tickets to museums or concerts. This initiative will not be valid for gift boxes.

To use these discount vouchers, interested individuals must register online on the website www.estalviatge.cat starting February 28. Once they obtain the promotional code, they must formalize the trip reservation at an agency participating in the campaign within a maximum of five calendar days.
