Construction works for the future La Sagrera station continue to advance, as do works on the railway infrastructure. Last March, the contract for the drafting of the architectural projects for the future station and its urbanization was awarded. The winner was the UTE formed by b720 Arquitectura, Fermín Vázquez's studio; Ayesa Enginyeria i Arquitectura, and Pegi Engineering.
The contracting process had to be temporarily suspended after the presentation of an appeal before the Central Administrative Court of Contractual Appeals. Finally, after the Court's resolution, the winning UTE has been contracted.
Now the drafting of the projects will begin, contracted for an amount of 3.74 million euros. With an execution period of 24 months, architect Fermín Vázquez will have to define the architectural configuration of the station, its urban integration, and the design of the building's roof-park and adjacent public spaces.
As he explained in an interview with The New Barcelona Post, the most emblematic element will be a large wooden canopy. "The canopy will emerge from the ground and form part of a park that will send a message of urban sustainability," Vázquez pointed out.
The Deputy Mayor for Ecology, Urban Planning, Infrastructure, and Mobility of the Barcelona City Council, Janet Sanz, has celebrated this new step forward in the configuration of the station. Sanz has emphasized that La Sagrera will become "a reference station for the city and, therefore, must have an adequate, modern design, that defines Barcelona and architecturally transforms it into a great station surrounded by first-class urban planning."
