The Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Catalonia (Aijec) is warming up for a new gala for the delivery of the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The finalists for this year's edition are Eva and Maria Martin, from Tindeo; Carlos Duran, from Hoy-voy, and Oscar Pierre, from Glovo. The award reaches its 29th edition consolidated as "one of the most important entrepreneurship awards held in Catalonia", with the aim of "distinguishing the work, effort and perseverance of young entrepreneurs capable of generating jobs and promoting business projects".

The XXIX Young Entrepreneur Award will take place this Wednesday, October 19, starting at 7 p.m. at the Institute of Ocular Microsurgery of Barcelona (IMO). More than 200 guests are expected to attend the event, including the main representatives of the economic, institutional and entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The award will choose from three finalists with very different profiles. First, the Martin twins created the company in 2011, after years working in multinationals. Tiendeo proposed digitizing the advertising left in mailboxes, concentrating it on a website and mobile app, a trend that is expected to grow in the coming years. Recently, the executives sold Tiendeo to one of its European competitors, the Italian ShopFully.

The driving school Hoy-voy, created in 2012 by Carlos Duran and Jordi López with the aim of modernizing the sector and lowering prices, will also compete to win the Young Entrepreneur award. Among the novelties they introduced was allowing cheaper classes to be booked according to the time slot, in addition to being able to do everything online.

The home delivery company Glovo is the other competitor for the award, after becoming one of the main references in the sector, despite not yet having managed to register profits. The company created by Oscar Pierre has also recently been sold, in this case, to the German Delivery Hero.

In addition to Tiendeo, Hoy-voy and Glovo, emerging startups such as Bold, Trioteca and Wipass will also compete for the award for Best Business Initiative. Bold specializes in the design of batteries for electric racing cars. Founded in Girona, the company has experienced exponential expansion thanks to its promoter Bernat Carreras, a mechanical engineer who has been part of Formula 1 technical teams for teams such as McLaren, Renault-Alpine and Honda.

Trioteca, a technology company focused on mortgage contracting, was the answer to the problems faced by the couple formed by Ricard Garriga and Sara Orra, members of the founding team. Through a completely digital service, they offer the product that best suits each client and integrates the offer of 37 banking entities.

In the category to award new initiatives, the startup Wypass, led by Mariam Ayadi, will also compete. The company has created a device that allows connecting to Wi-Fi without passwords, just by approaching the device they have developed. It has also gone a step further and has turned this device into a loyalty tool: it not only facilitates connectivity but also provides access to the establishment's digital services and allows real-time communication.

During the Young Entrepreneur Award ceremony, Aijec will present three more recognitions: the Recognition for Best Business Trajectory, which is given to an experienced entrepreneur with a consolidated business project; the Recognition for Business Linguistic Quality, for a positive promotion of the use of Catalan in the company as a qualitative improvement tool, the Recognition for Social Entrepreneurship and the Recognition for Future Young Entrepreneur which aims to award an entrepreneurial project carried out by minors under 18 years of age.
