The lobby of the Diagonal L5 station will continue to be a space not only of hustle and bustle, but also of music: the piano that has been enlivening access to the metro since March will stay permanently.
This has been decided by the Fundació de Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) and the Maria Canals International Piano Competition, which have decided to give continuity to the pilot test that was launched at the end of March.
After positively evaluating the use made of the instrument during these three months, it will remain permanently in the location, where passengers will be able to continue playing the piano or delighting themselves with the improvised performances of other passengers.
The pilot test was launched with the aim of bringing music closer to metro users and improving their travel experience, something that has been achieved during these three months. Since the piano was installed, it has been regularly used by amateurs.
Thus, the piano transforms a busy thoroughfare into a musical meeting point. The initiative coincides with the 70th anniversary of the competition —which was commemorated with an exhibition in the Mercè Sala metro exhibition space— and, furthermore, with the centenary of the subway, a double anniversary that is also celebrated with music.
