The Cupra Born arrives, Cupra's first 100% electric vehicle

The Seat automotive group presents a more accessible model, with prices between 32,000 and 34,000 euros, which can also be enjoyed through subscription. Designed in Barcelona and manufactured in Germany, it will be available at the end of the year.

Seat continues its commitment to electrifying mobility. While it remains to be seen whether the Volkswagen group will build a battery plant in Spain, the automaker continues to take steps forward to transform the sector. It has just presented the new Cupra Born, Cupra's first 100% electric vehicle. This new model has the challenge of making electric cars more accessible, with a price between 32,000 and 34,000 euros, leaving behind the more premium versions.

The Cupra Born has been designed and developed in Martorell, but will begin production at the Zwickau plant (Germany) starting in September. It is expected to be available by the end of the year. It will be marketed through traditional sales systems, but also through subscription contracts, with the aim of reaching new audiences. It is characterized by a range of 540 kilometers and a power of up to 231 HP.

For the president of Seat and Cupra, Wayne Griffiths, the Cupra Born must represent a turning point in the Spanish market, considering that it is at the bottom of electric car sales in Europe, with a 5% market share, only ahead of Greece. "Spain cannot miss the electrification train," insists Griffiths.

In fact, the president conditions the establishment of a battery plant on increasing market share. "If electric cars are not sold in Spain, they do not need to be manufactured and a battery factory is not needed either," he explains. The executive also calls for extending the public charging infrastructure throughout the country and promoting more aid to incentivize purchases.
