The Circuit reinvents itself to be a world reference

Among the novelties, the spectacular 'Rooftop' stands out, which will premiere coinciding with the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is immersed in an ambitious transformation project to position itself as the most modern permanent track in Europe. With an investment plan of 50 million euros until 2026, the Circuit accelerates its modernization promoting a more sustainable, innovative, industrial and digital model, in order to become a key infrastructure for the country.

In this sense, the project seeks for the Montmeló facility to generate sources of income through new business lines and increase its synergies with industry, especially that linked to green mobility.

For now, a large part of the infrastructure improvement works can already be seen, such as the comprehensive renovation of the control tower, the briefing room, the press room, the stewards' and timing offices, and the hospitality areas. New offices and rooms have also been created for business and social events and meetings. In addition, the terrace of the pit building has been remodeled with the construction of a new roof.

A benchmark in sustainability

The new plan aims to make the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya a leader in environmental commitment and the transformations that this type of facilities must carry out in the face of the climate emergency. Currently, the Circuit is already a world reference for its commitment to sustainability and respect for its environment, but the goal is to go further.

In this context, last October the Circuit inaugurated the largest public self-consumption photovoltaic installation in Catalonia. Since then, it has a total of 1,239 solar panels that generate 33% of the energy currently consumed by the Circuit.

New revenues

In addition to environmental sustainability, the plan also seeks diversification to generate new revenues. Its objective is to improve the direct generation of economic resources and be more efficient through digitalization. Beyond the 4,675 meters of track, the Circuit has 25 hectares of green areas that allow the organization of unique events linked to the world of entertainment and healthy leisure.

In this sense, the organizational capacity and experience in holding mass events is an added value of the Circuit when diversifying business lines throughout the year.

Likewise, the Circuit will become a tool for boosting industry and technological innovation in Catalonia, especially that linked to green mobility and the automotive sector, which faces the challenge of decarbonizing its production. A tool aligned with the Government's objective of reindustrializing Catalonia.

The Rooftop, the Circuit's new icon, is born

Among the novelties of 2024, the creation of the Rooftop stands out, a walkway that connects the paddock with the Stadium area. This space, together with the roof of the Main Grandstand (emblem of the Catalan track), will be a new iconic element of the Circuit and will offer an unprecedented perspective of the track. The Rooftop is expected to debut during the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix, which will be held from June 21 to 23.
