The musical programming is getting lively this 2025. After the premiere of Groundhog Day, directed by Manu Guix and Enric Cambray at the Coliseum theater, another Broadway hit will arrive in Barcelona. Chicago, with hits like All That Jazz and Razzle Dazzle, will join the billboard. The musical can be seen from January 23 to March 2 at the Tívoli theater.
For five weeks, a production that is also being seen at the Ambassador Theatre in New York will be on display in the Catalan capital. Since its premiere 25 years ago on Broadway, 34 million spectators from all over the world in 36 different countries have seen it.
The production will consist of 24 performers such as Teresa Abarca, Sílvia Álvarez, Ela Ruiz, and Ivan Labanda after great artists like Liza Minnelli, Melanie Griffith, Patrick Swayze, Sofía Vergara, or Pamela Anderson have starred in it. The musical has scores, lyrics, libretto, and choreographies by John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Bob Fosse.
Chicago takes place amidst the extravagant decadence of the 1920s and tells the story of the dancer Roxie Hart. The artist maliciously murders her lover when he threatens to leave her. Desperate to avoid conviction, Roxie deceives the public, the media, and her cellmate, and hires a lawyer. The lawyer will turn the crime into a smokescreen of sensational headlines to try to reverse the situation.
