Teladoc Health opens a technology 'hub' in Barcelona, with one hundred people

The new digital development center in the field of health will contribute to turning the city into a benchmark innovation hub in virtual medicine and digital health in Europe

Teladoc Health, a US company dedicated to telemedicine, has located a digital hub in health technologies in Barcelona, for which it has hired a team of 50 developers and plans to expand the workforce to one hundred experts in the coming months. The firm has 500 employees in Catalonia.

The new technological development center was created with the aim of turning the city into a leading technological innovation hub in virtual medicine and leading digital health in Europe.

The multinational has had its corporate headquarters for its international business in Barcelona since 2020, with a team led by Carlos Nueno that manages operations in 24 countries and 1,500 people. The company has just opened new 7,000 square meter offices on Via Augusta.

In a conference at Esade, the head of the international division explained that "in the coming years, technology in the healthcare world will have a great impact and development, which will generate new business and employment opportunities." Nueno highlighted that Barcelona can contribute and has the opportunity to lead this growth "thanks to the technological and health ecosystem available in the city and throughout the country."

From the Catalan capital, Teladoc Health will promote local synergies that can be generated within the telemedicine sector, attract more digital talent, and welcome many technological professionals from Eastern European countries.

The international president of Teladoc Health, a company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, stated that telemedicine is not booming because of the pandemic, but rather responds to a more global change in the field of medical care. "The medical experience has changed, especially for mental health patients, who have grown in recent years, and for patients with chronic diseases, who are beginning to see virtual medical services as indispensable, as they help them make their pathology more bearable," he assured.
