Tacos are, without a doubt, one of the great protagonists of Mexican gastronomy. Due to their simplicity and versatility, since an infinite number of ingredients can be added to the tortilla that serves as a base, this dish has crossed borders and conquered palates around the world. In Barcelona, there is a wide variety of restaurants that cook them in all shapes and flavors, with meat, fish, or vegetarian options. Tacos Fest brings together this weekend in Montjuïc the best restaurateurs and dishes to be seduced by this succulent recipe, in a third edition of the event that grows in space and in the number of participating restaurants.
With the idea of "paying homage" to this flagship dish of Mexican gastronomy, a total of 18 taquerias in the city will present more than 50 types of tacos, from classic tacos al pastor to the most explosive combinations. During the event, you can taste the Asian fusion tacos presented by Casa Xica, with combinations such as lacquered Iberian rib or Peking duck, as well as Chamako's beef steak tartar tacos, without forgetting the classic cochinita pibil from La Güerita Mexicana.
A festival that is also suitable for coeliacs, as not only most of the tacos will be gluten-free, but also the beers that can be tasted. But the festival will not only have tacos; the establishments will also prepare Mexico's most emblematic dishes, such as nachos with guacamole, totopos, or quesadillas. To accompany the menu, the bars will serve micheladas ---a beer-based cocktail, in addition to lemon juice, spice, and salt---.
Furthermore, to finish the tasting with a good taste, the popular Barcelona ice cream parlor Delacrem will prepare ice creams for the occasion, with Mexican-themed flavors, such as hibiscus flower or tamarind. La Revuelta Cultura Mexicana, a store with artisanal products brought directly from Mexico, will also be present at the festival, with bags with traditional motifs, masks or lucha libre items, as well as colorful jewelry or hammocks imported from Yucatán.
For the most daring, the festival also organizes the spicy challenge, a contest open to attendees to demonstrate resistance to the boldest flavors. Participants will taste five tacos with an increasingly spicy degree to win the prize and get a Goya sauces pack, in addition to a dinner valued at 40 euros at the Machete restaurant, a participant in the festival.
A celebration of Mexican culture
In addition to gastronomy and local products, Mexican culture will be perceived through the five senses. Mariachis could not be missed at Tacos Fest, and on this occasion Cielito Lindo will stop by the space to set the mood for the event. Another essential will be the wrestling sessions, during Friday and Saturday nights.
The INEFC of Montjuïc (Avda. de l'Estadi, 12-22) will be the setting for the festival, which will open from Friday, May 23 to Sunday, May 25. On Friday, the festival will only be open in the afternoon, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., the time at which the event will also close on Saturday.
On Saturday and Sunday the event will open at 12 noon and will definitively close its doors on Sunday at 8 p.m. To taste the fifty tacos offered by the festival, a three-euro entrance fee must be paid, which must be purchased at the venue itself, although there is also the possibility of reserving a table in the private area, starting from 80 euros. The table reservation also includes a michelada, a portion of nachos and the possibility of accessing the venue without queuing.
