If playing dead in the water were a job, she would be a true professional. That feeling of floating and closing her eyes, finding the perfect spot so that no water gets into her ears and she doesn't get a stiff neck. Her arms, belly, legs, and feet in perfect synchrony. Everything around her silences and it's just her in a precarious version of a starfish. Some splashing or the distant "cerveza, beer" distract her for a few seconds, but she manages to isolate herself from everything. She will let her fingers wrinkle because no one is watching her anymore and then she will get out, but she won't stay on the beach for long. The best will come when she gets into bed, still with a bit of salt and sand despite the shower, and feels the coming and going of the waves again.
