Sant Joan de Déu receives 15,000 euros to investigate childhood cancer

Argenta Patrimonios Vall Banc Group covers 30% of the budget that the medical center dedicates each year to rhabdomyosarcoma

Rhabdomyosarcoma cancer forms in soft tissues, especially in skeletal muscle tissue or in hollow organs such as the bladder or uterus, usually affecting children under 15 years of age. In Spain, between 35 and 40 new cases are diagnosed each year.

Argenta Patrimonios Vall Banc Group has donated 15,000 euros to Hospital Sant Joan de Déu to advance research to combat this rare childhood cancer. With this donation, through the Association against Rhabdomyosarcoma, the entity finances 30% of the annual budget that the medical center allocates to this type of sarcoma.

The head of Argenta Patrimonios and president of the Association against Rhabdomyosarcoma, Joan Manel Casanovas, argues that helping social actions like this is part of the entity's DNA. "There is still a long way to go to advance research into this rare cancer and knowing that, with our help, we contribute to it is very gratifying," he remarks.

The pandemic has hampered the mobilization of resources for studies and treatments of this type of disease. For this reason, Emma Perrier, from the fundraising department of Sant Joan de Déu, points out that the donation from Argenta Patrimonios will be a great boost for 2021, becoming the highest that the Association against Rhabdomyosarcoma has received this year.

Entities like this are dedicated to raising funds for research, through the organization of recreational activities and private donations. The entity was created in 2015 and, for five years, has allocated 50,000 euros annually to subsidize the cost of the project.
