La Sagrada Família will host a Creole mass this Tuesday to raise funds for the war in Ukraine and to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Pope Francis' pontificate. Pasión Vega and David Bisbal will be in charge of performing this interpretation of traditional Argentine religious music themes, although there will also be popular songs such as
Hallelujah or
I only ask God.
"It's an impressive gift from life for me," the Madrid artist said a day before the ceremony, promoted by Sister Lucía Caram and businessman Enrique Tomás. In a private audience held last October in the Vatican, both presented the project to the Pope, who blessed them. Vega and Bisbal will be accompanied by the choir of the Liceu Conservatory and the direction will fall to Jacob Sureda. "It will be a moment of community and union," the singer assured, immersed this year in her tour of
Lorca sonoroin homage to the poet from Granada. Around 150 priests from different Catalan dioceses will concelebrate this mass, which will be officiated by the president of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, Cardinal Juan José Omella. It will be the first time that the Sagrada Família hosts a religious celebration of this type. The Misa Criolla will begin at 7 p.m. and more than 3,500 people are expected to attend. It can be followed live on TVE. Among the attendees will be political representatives such as the Minister of Defense,
Margarita Robles, and the Government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, and businessmen such as
Joan Gaspart,
Juli Guiuand
Sandro Rosell. There will also be personalities from the world of gastronomy such as the
Torres brothers,
Albert Adriàand
Nandu Jubany, and of interpretation, like the actor
Darko Perić, known for his role in
Money Heist. The donations obtained this Tuesday will be allocated to the construction of a field hospital for those wounded in the war in Ukraine, located 50 kilometers from the Russian border. This is part of the work carried out by Sister Lucía Caram in her more than 20 visits to Ukraine to open humanitarian corridors through the Foundation of the Convent of Santa Clara de Manresa. For this reason, the ceremony will also be attended by Ukrainian army soldiers and refugees who have settled in the Catalan capital since the outbreak of the armed conflict. The organizers' intention is for this charity ceremony to be held every year and for the donations to finance different projects. "What we have in abundance are causes," said Enrique Tomás, "giving is easy, asking is difficult." They have not revealed the amount they expect to raise at this first event, although they have stressed that they hope donations will extend beyond the day of the mass at the Sagrada Família. Different companies have joined the initiative, among them, Agustí Torelló Mata, who has created a collector's badge for the bottles of Ubac Gran Reserva cava, with which he aims to raise 7,500 euros.
