Of incubators and Barcelona saxophones

There is a monthly appointment that should be prescribed by doctors when trying to lift general spirits. On the first Monday of each month, at 6:30 p.m., we meet at CASA SEAT in Barcelona and talk about everything and more, with a Catalan Barcelonian perspective, to confirm, based on real facts, that we are on the map of the most cutting-edge sectors worldwide. And, according to experts of all ages and conditions, it seems that this will be the case for many years, if we don't relax and, above all, if we don't get depressed. This week, regarding Industry 4.0, we returned to it within the cycle The New Barcelona – Moments Estel·lars, organized by The New Barcelona Post.

We started with the basics, which would be to define what Industry 4.0 is, and a senior executive, Ramon Pastor, vice president and general manager of HP's 3D printing business, summarized it masterfully for us. It is basically the digitalization of the processes of conception, creation, and distribution of products. All this with the idea of saving costs (gold, in these times), but also of saving, for example, negative effects on the environment.

Pere Navarro, special delegate of the State in the Consorci de la Zona Franca, conversed with him, wearing a jacket with the famous round colorful pin on the lapel representing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set in the 2030 Agenda. But he made it clear that his commitment to this framework is not just a matter of a pin. He also knew how to exemplify what successful agents from sectors such as culture, sports, design, or the economy in all its aspects have most advocated in our cycle of conversations: the importance of public-private collaboration.

The CZFB is today, in part, a large incubator of projects, realities, and professionals who promote them, dedicated to an Industry 4.0 that, according to Pastor, puts Barcelona and Catalonia on the global map. And that demands (how could it not?) greater investment in well-focused training of professional roles and profiles well-oriented to this new world that, for example, allows us to create our own saxophones digitally, and so many other things that until four days ago were unthinkable to consider in these terms.

I leave you here the links to recover the conversation on Spotify or Youtube.
