At just 23 years old, David Camprubí has managed to create a company that already has 20 employees, an online store, and three physical points of sale. This is Newcop, a firm specializing in the sale of limited edition sneakers that in 2023 managed to more than double its turnover and that this year plans to grow by 50% and open three more stores in Europe.

"We want Newcop to be the reference place to buy sneakers that are not found in stores and, furthermore, for the acquisition to become a great shopping experience," says the founder and CEO of Newcop, who has turned his passion, sneakers, into a booming business. The Barcelona entrepreneur invoiced 5.8 million euros in 2023, a figure that represents a growth of 132% compared to the 2.5 million he recorded in 2022, the year in which he launched the startup.

Newcop has sold more than 25,000 pairs of sneakers in the last year, almost triple that of 2022, when it sold 9,000 pairs. 75% of the turnover comes from the three specialized stores that the brand has opened in Barcelona ---where it has two points of sale in Duran i Bas and Portaferrissa streets--- and Madrid. The online sales portal, which ships orders in 48 hours, has generated the remaining 25%.

"It is not an easy task to get limited edition sneakers, regardless of the budget you have. If you don't have contacts, it is very likely that you won't get; for example, one of the latest pairs that the Adidas brand has relaunched of the mythical Gazelle silhouette. Newcop wants to facilitate the shopping experience by offering sold-out models at the point of sale," says Camprubí.

According to the entrepreneur, the startup was born in April 2022 to cover two needs of sneaker fans: the frustration these consumers feel when trying to get a limited edition pair --- whether it's Air Jordan or UGG or any collaboration with rappers or streetwear brands --- and running out of them because they have sold out in a matter of minutes, as well as the long wait involved in online sales.

"Newcop helps change the rules of limited editions in the sneaker market by offering a new multi-brand point of sale that brings together a large part of viral models that have already sold out and are not for sale," explains the Catalan company, which collaborates with brands such as Air Jordan, Nike Dunk, Yeezy, and New Balance. According to the company, "the authenticity and originality" of all products are guaranteed, and they can be tried on and even returned, something uncommon in the limited edition sneaker sector.

The goal for 2024 is to make the leap to Europe with the opening of three more physical stores, in cities that have not been specified. The challenge is to grow by at least 50% and reach a turnover of 9 million euros.
