Neraby Computing aims to accelerate its expansion in the market. The spin-off from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, founded in 2018, has closed an investment round of 6.5 million euros, led by Walter Ventures and JME Ventures, and also with the participation of Telefónica, through Wayra Ventures, and Akamai Technologies.

The investment, which positions the company specialized in Edge Computing at the forefront of this market segment, will allow it to expand its platform in key sectors and consolidate its leadership in strategic regions such as Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific. Investors who were already part of Nearby Computing's shareholding and who have executed follow-on investments, such as Cellnex Telecom, Lenovo, and the Redeia Group, also participated in the operation.

The company works on automation and orchestration for the Edge Computing model, allowing industrial and Telco sector companies to maximize the benefits offered by this technology through its NerarbyOne platform. This tool developed by the spin-off enables use cases such as connected vehicles and massive Internet of Things (IoT) in industrial environments, as well as in areas ranging from retail to defense and security.

Thus, the company's main objective is "to empower more companies and service providers with advanced Edge Computing solutions and software automation," according to Nearby Computing CEO, Josep Martí. With this objective, the company "is about to set new standards in enterprise and telecommunications networks, emerging as a category leader with its innovative platform," defended Walter Ventures director, Albert Font.

The investment in this BSC spin-off reflects the commitment to promote "digital transformation in the telecommunications industry through the adoption of innovative and disruptive technologies that generate impact on society," according to the director of Wayra Ventures at Telefónica, Pablo Moro, while JME Ventures partner José María Hernanz has highlighted the "commercial traction" that Nearby Computing has already achieved in managing applications and data through cloud computing. And, according to Akamai Technologies' head of strategy, Ramanath Iyer, "Nearby Computing's innovative approach and solution not only facilitate this management but also offer a flexible framework on which to continue building and innovating."
