The energy company plans to develop a public infrastructure of fast and semi-fast chargers distributed throughout Spain, with the aim of "democratizing" access to electric vehicles and making it easier for citizens who cannot install them at home. The more than 1,100 points that will make up the network will have an installed capacity of between 22 and 150 kW, and will represent a saving of 760 kTn of CO2 per year.
The charging points will be located in urban environments, towns with more than 50,000 inhabitants where there is an obligation to have low emission zones, and on the main communication routes between cities every 200 kilometers. The network is expected to be extensive enough to guarantee supply anywhere in the territory. The company chaired by Francisco Reynés plans to take advantage of existing facilities to connect the chargers, such as natural gas vehicle (NGV) stations.
Likewise, the project plans to deploy 450 renewable energy hubs nationwide. It will use artificial intelligence (AI) to predict demand, analyze consumption in real time, detect anomalies and perform preventive maintenance of charging points.
Naturgy will have more than 100 collaborators to make it possible. In the field of electric mobility, the company has experience in the installation and management of electric charging points, located in homes, businesses or public access.
The company has presented its plan to commercialize renewable energy and promote electric cars to different ministries. This aligns with the strategic lines defined by the European Union regarding the decarbonization of transport, as well as with the National Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which aims to encourage the massive deployment of charging points, among other issues.
