MWCapital promotes a technology entrepreneurship program for scientists

One of the objectives of The Collider, MWCapital's innovation program, is to close the gap between science and the market by creating disruptive startups. To make this possible, it wants to transfer the entrepreneurial attitude to universities and use the researcher-entrepreneur formula, a key factor for creating new high-value companies. The first edition of OnCampus wants to take steps forward in this direction.

a Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) has committed to promoting a technological entrepreneurship program for scientists. The first edition of OnCampus will bring together researchers and master's and doctoral students for seven weeks to identify potential early-stage projects that can impact industry and foster an entrepreneurial spirit in the scientific ecosystem.

More than 100 participants will work simultaneously and virtually to evaluate the commercial viability of their projects through entrepreneurship. The new program will feature 32 initiatives from all over Catalonia, coming from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the Universitat de Lleida (UdL), the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) and the Universitat de Girona (UdG). Centres de Recerca de Catalunya (CERCA) and the Xarxa d'Emprenedoria Universitària will also collaborate.

OnCampus is designed to validate the market applicability of technological projects tested in laboratories, following the American methodology Lean Launchpad, which has consolidated the United States as a benchmark in the field of applied research in the market. It has done so after transforming the relationships between universities and companies, emphasizing the potential of research to gain competitiveness and promoting and generating a new industrial fabric with a scientific base.

The program, a result of the collaboration between MWCapital and the Secretariat of Business and Competitiveness of the Generalitat for the period 2020-2023, includes a wide range of activities and promotes contact with industry and business experts, mentoring and the exchange of impressions among participants. The initiatives selected for this first edition cover various topics, from health projects to applications in agriculture, energy and essential services, such as urban waste management. It will culminate on December 11, with the presentation of the projects before a tribunal that will decide whether or not their ideas have a future in the market.
