Patronage is a way of supporting cultural, scientific, or social activities; a selfless collaboration born from a commitment to the environment and the desire to contribute to the common good. Therefore, at a time like the one we are going through, marked by uncertainty and major global challenges, patronage regains its deepest meaning, becoming a collective force capable of transforming society.
Today, patronage goes beyond occasional philanthropy, as it is conceived as a strategic alliance between institutions, companies, and citizens to promote social well-being, reduce inequalities, and build a more just and sustainable future. At Fundación Naturgy, we are fully convinced of the importance of this work, and since 1992, we have made social and environmental commitment the core of our activities.
Throughout these years, we have corroborated that patronage can be an effective tool to advance towards a more inclusive, equitable, and, above all, sustainable model. Our work is structured around three main axes: social action, education, and environmental and energy awareness.
Within this framework, one of our priority focuses has been the fight against energy vulnerability, a problem that affects more and more households. Since 2017, when we launched the Energy Vulnerability Plan, we have been able to support and improve the situation of more than 300,000 people.
We also promote the Solidarity Energy Rehabilitation Fund, which has allowed the rehabilitation and improvement of conditions in more than 5,000 homes of families in vulnerable situations, becoming a reference project, both in Spain and at the European level. Initiatives such as the Energy School, which is present in more than 700 municipalities, or Energy Volunteering in collaboration with Cruz Roja, which advises thousands of people on how to reduce their energy consumption and improve their efficiency through workshops, also stand out. Last year alone, almost 10,000 people benefited from this.
In the field of energy education, Efigy Education is one of our most important initiatives. Through it, thousands of students have been able to improve their knowledge of energy, sustainability, and ecological transition. In addition, within this program are the Efigy Technology Contest and the Efigy Girls program, which are examples of the importance of initiatives that promote the STEM field from an early age to promote equal opportunities in this sector.
Patronage is a commitment that seeks to contribute to the development of a more informed, more just, and more sustainable society.Innovation is also an essential part of our commitment. A clear example of this is the Naturgy-CSIC Foundation Award for Research and Technological Innovation, launched in 2023 to support cutting-edge projects in decarbonization and energy transition. Another of our pillars is theenergy and environmental disclosure. For us, it is fundamental to generate spaces for reflection and debate on relevant and current topics in the energy sector. For example, through forumsEnergy Prospectives, that we developed together with IESE Business School, we promote in each edition a space where recognized experts can contribute their vision and knowledge on the perspectives of the sector.
In addition to all this, we are developing a plan to support more than 40,000 people affected by the DANA in the Valencian Community, Adding Energies for Valencia, which combines social action, education, training for employment and environmental sustainability.
All this is part of our way of understanding patronage, a commitment that seeks to contribute to the development of a more informed, more just and more sustainable society.
