The logistics market is booming and with great growth prospects. New technologies, based on Logistics 4.0, are driving the development of this sector to an unprecedented level. The consulting firm PwC has carried out a study called The era of digitized transport, where it indicates that the digitalization and automation of processes will reduce transport costs in the logistics industry by 47% in 2030.
In addition to technology, there is another strategic axis that is driving the revolution in the logistics industry, and that is sustainability. Given the increased awareness on the part of citizens and the UN's SDGs, the sector is also moving towards decarbonization, the use of renewable energies, electrification, efficiency, and process optimization, etc.
Given this scenario, SIL returns for another year, the essential event to learn about the latest trends in the Logistics, Transport, Intralogistics and Supply Chain sector in Europe and internationally. It will take place from June 5 to 7 in pavilion 8 of the Montjuïc venue of Fira de Barcelona and will have three main pillars: business generation among attending companies, networking and knowledge exchange. SIL has consolidated itself as the main reference sectoral event where the entire value chain of the logistics sector attends.
"Year after year we have been incorporating the different sectors that are part of the supply chain, constituting one of the few fairs in the world where they are represented: transport, logistics, distribution, intralogistics, handling, immologistics, last mile, technology, industry 4.0, startups, infrastructures, etc. This is one of the keys to success," comments Pere Navarro, special delegate of the State in the CZFB and president of SIL.
Scenario of knowledge, business and top-level international 'networking'
The SIL 2024 edition expects to reach a participation of 650 companies ---30% international--- that will present150 innovations in world exclusive.Additionally, the SIL offers a magnificent opportunity to donetworking. Thanks to the platformSIL Platformall participants will be connected to schedule meetings, foster knowledge exchange, and contribute to the generation of new business. This year, SIL offersnew exclusive B2B spaceswhere companies will hold business meetings previously scheduled by both parties.Likewise, the SIL will become the best setting to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Meda Logistics & Transport Week, which emerges, in this special edition, as an essential platform to shape the future of logistics in three continents: Southeast Asia, North Africa, and Southern Europe.
The general director of CZFB and SIL, Blanca Sorigué, has stated that "this edition will allow us to enjoy the knowledge of sector leaders, connect and generate synergies with potential partners, and discover up to 150 new products firsthand. We are proud of the reach, dimension, and impact that SIL is generating year after year."
On the other hand, SIL is also synonymous with knowledge exchange. In this edition, SIL Knowledge will feature an extensive knowledge program, with more than 70 reflection and debate sessions and 320 international speakers who will delve into the challenges and concerns faced by logistics companies, as well as the opportunities offered by new technologies. Directors and heads of Supply Chain and Logistics from prominent companies such as Unilever, Seat, Mango, Condis, Simon, Mahou San Miguel, Akzo Nobel, Frit Ravich, Zalando, Covestro, or Capsa Food, among others, will participate as speakers in SIL Knowledge.
On the first day, held on June 5, topics such as: the latest innovations in technologies and fuels to reduce emissions in maritime transport; the relevance of standardizing processes and adopting digitalization in the industry; and sustainability in supply chain management will be discussed.
On June 6, the debate will focus on the digitalization of foreign trade, the challenges of sustainable mobility in long-distance transport, the application of Artificial Intelligence in the transformation of the supply chain, and last-mile logistics, among other topics. And, finally, on June 7, sessions will be held focusing on issues such as the logistics FP ecosystem in Barcelona, disruptive innovations in logistics, digital transformation, and training and AI in healthcare logistics.
'Startups', innovation and search for talent opportunities
Another of the great attractions of the event is theStartup Innovation Hub, a space where the startupswill present disruptive solutions for the logistics industry and will also feature the presence of companies fromthe Logistics 4.0 incubator, promoted by the CZFB.The most recent study on talent and employment in the logistics sector, presented at the end of the year by the Logistics Forum, has highlighted that 50% of companies believe that the shortage of talent is affecting their productivity. In 10 years, there will be a need to fill between 400,000 and 500,000 new jobs, a figure that could lead to a loss of competitiveness in the sector due to the lack of professionals. To address the challenge of talent shortage, the CZFB also promotes the Job Market Place at SIL: a space for selecting and hiring new talent, in collaboration with Barcelona Activa, where companies can meet with candidates who meet the professional requirements to incorporate new talent.
To attend SIL, it is necessary to register through the website, where all updated information can be accessed and the latest news from the main international fair in the logistics sector can be found.
