This week, Barcelona Activa has laid its cards on the table: €71 million and an ambitious plan for 2027 that aims to support 55,000 people and 6,500 companies. In a city that is growing by 4% but still needs to convert this momentum into real opportunities for everyone, the agency reinforces its role as a silent engine of Barcelona's employment, backing women, young people, and the quiet revolution of artificial intelligence in the workplace. Such is its reputation that four out of every ten start-ups founded in Barcelona have passed through Barcelona Activa.
Lorenzo Di Pietro (Rome) has led Barcelona Activa since September 2023, having previously served as Executive Director of Entrepreneurship, Business, and Innovation from February 2016. Holding a degree in Economics from Sapienza University of Rome and a master's in Public and Social Policies from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in partnership with Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, he joined Barcelona Activa in 2001, where he has driven strategic projects such as the MediaTIC incubator, specialising in deeptech, and the IT Academy. Since 2023, he has been at the helm of the organisation, tasked with ensuring it continues to serve as the launchpad for major Catalan enterprises.
