Being at 4YFN is thrilling—at times, even too much. Many stimuli, many conversations, many opportunities not to be missed. It is the thrill of the international entrepreneurial ecosystem concentrated in Barcelona. In the midst of it, an oasis emerges where conversations flow at a different pace and with a different energy. With beanbags, open air, something to drink and also, of course, music. It is the Beat Barcelona, where the power of 4YFN continues to vibrate, at another frequency.
The music that gives character to the atmosphere does not come from just any playlist: they are DJs from Barcelona and L'Hospitalet clubs. They play at the international event thanks to the Association of Concert Halls of Catalonia (ASACC), in an initiative that highlights local talent and the music scene, in a global event.
ASACC has brought 17 DJs from 15 concert halls to Beat Barcelona, in the third year that the association is in charge of the sound of the space, promoted by the Barcelona City Council. In this edition, it does so with a novelty: "We have added concert halls from L'Hospitalet," explain the co-directors of ASACC, Adriana Aclover and Fatima Mellado, while coordinating from the Beat everything necessary for the music to sound as it should during the 4YFN days—the last one, rained out by the rain—.
"Until now they had come from Barcelona venues, and we wanted to add those from L'Hospitalet: it is the city that actually hosts the event, and the second largest in Catalonia," summarize the two co-directors while the varied rhythms of the DJs play in the background.
Variety has characterized these rhythms. DJs have been parading through the Beat mixing desk, changing sound every two hours, "always ensuring parity," highlight the co-directors of the association. This mix of sounds and variety is condensed into a cocktail that represents the local sound.
"It's the sound of the city," claims YULIE, resident DJ of Marula Café. "It's very interesting that in an event with people from all over the world, this space and this opportunity to represent the city at a clubbing level is given."
In addition, tasting the style of each venue through its DJs represents an invitation to attendees to close the long day of the congress in one of the venues represented at the event, which are not few: Razzmatazz, Apolo, Jamboree, La Paloma and Luz de Gas, passing through Salamandra, Wolf, Freedonia and Club Sauvage. In addition to Marula Café, Espai Salvadiscos, Upload, Garage 442, River and Laut, all of them representing Barcelona's club scene, on a global stage.
