Lasting Glances: Steve McCurry at Palau Martorell

There are gazes that are already part of collective memory, although we don't always know how to name them. ICONS, the great exhibition of Steve McCurry at Palau Martorell, invites us to return to these faces that time has fixed in the global imagination, but which continue to challenge us with the same intensity. The exhibition, curated by Biba Giacchetti in collaboration with the artist, brings together 150 photographs that span more than forty years of his career, tracing an itinerary of gazes, everyday scenes and portraits that have defined the way the American photographer looks at the world. Among them, that of Sharbat Gula —the young refugee in Pakistan—, one of the most iconic images of the 20th century, born from a brief instant that McCurry managed to turn into a universal symbol.
