Twenty years after the arrival of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the city's technological ecosystem is experiencing a new stage. The congress closed its 2026 edition with a record economic impact of 588 million euros, more than 105,000 attendees, and nearly 14,000 temporary jobs generated. Coinciding with this anniversary, Mobile World Capital Barcelona has appointed Laia Corbella as the new general director of the foundation, the entity responsible for transforming the congress's momentum into permanent projects linked to talent, innovation, and technology transfer. Her arrival comes at a time when Barcelona seeks to consolidate its position as one of the main digital hubs in Southern Europe.

A journalist by training with a career that combines institutional communication, public management, and the business ecosystem, Corbella has been linked to Mobile World Capital since 2022, first as Communication Director and later as Head of Institutional Relations and Public Affairs. Previously, she had directed the economic media outlet Via Empresa and held the communication directorship of the Department of Business and Knowledge of the Generalitat. Now she takes on the challenge of leading a foundation that has contributed to projects such as mSchools or Talent Arena and has become one of Barcelona's main tools for technological projection.
