Keybotic has closed a seed round for three million euros, led by two Spanish family offices from the industrial and technological sector. The financing will serve to continue developing its robot-dog. Named Keyper, it is designed to autonomously perform maintenance tasks and industrial inspections without human interaction. Founded in 2020, the company plans to begin mass production and commercialization of its product starting in mid-2023. According to the company, it plans to produce the robot at its facilities at the Barcelona Activa headquarters.
The company, responsible for the design and manufacture of this robot-dog equipped with sensors and cameras, argues that its technology increases the productivity and safety of industrial companies' personnel. For example, Keyper is capable of detecting gas and vapor leaks, reading devices, sending images of facilities, and generating real-time alerts. The automaton developed by this startup is also prepared to predict incidents, digitizing the factories where it is installed, and coordinating with other robotic companions of the same model.
"The financing round validates our Robot as a Service (RaaS) business model and provides us with financial muscle to continue our growth in strategic sectors for the company," says Keybotic co-founder and CEO, Irene Gómez, "it allows us to increase our production capacity to face a new phase focused on the commercialization of our robot-dog."
The deep tech startup will dedicate the resources obtained in the financing round to hiring personnel to create the business, marketing, and sales areas, with a focus on attracting clients from the chemical and security sectors, especially industries such as oil, gas, and mining. Some of its first contracts have been with companies such as Carburos Metálicos, Basf, and Bombers de Barcelona. Likewise, the investment raised will be used to strengthen the specialized robotics engineering team for the manufacture of the robots.
Currently, Keybotic has a staff of 11 professionals, mainly engineers for the development of the robot. The company plans to hire about 15 new workers in this new growth phase.
