Joppy buys Rviewer's business and closes a 530,000 euro round

The Barcelona-based platform for selecting programmers and tech talent has obtained a good part of its new financial resources from its own user community. Among its objectives, expansion throughout Europe stands out.

Joppy, a technology talent selection platform based in Sant Andreu de la Barca (Barcelona), has raised 530,000 euros in funding and has acquired several assets from Rviewer with the aim of boosting its business, as it has more than 70,000 users, including companies such as Red Points, Cooltra and Atrápalo. Founded in 2018 by David Mundo, Antonio Santiago and Felipe Saal, Joppy has managed to close a 300,000 euro round to finance its growth, which is accompanied by a public loan granted by ENISA for an additional 230,000 euros. It so happens that nearly half of the private resources have been raised among the platform's own users through a crowdfunding campaign promoted by the company.

The company, which defines itself as a match platform in tech recruiting, will allocate the capital increase to face its growth plan, to boost its international expansion in four European technological hubs and to new technological developments. Current investors participated in the financing round, as well as new business angels and platform users, such as developers and chief technology officers (CTOs) of some of the companies they serve as clients. "We are committed to also involving our loyal community, composed at that time of more than 53,000 developers and 2,200 recruiters. If Joppy is created by and for developers, it made perfect sense for them to invest," explains Joppy's CEO, Nico Bour.

Thus, with minimum tickets of 2,000 euros, Joppy's user community has contributed 100,000 euros to the round. "We are more than happy with what we have achieved. It has been a huge boost of joy that your own users help you grow the business," adds Bour.

Incorporation of a skill validation software

Joppy explains that as they were finalizing the details to close the round, they learned the news that Rviewer, one of their main competitors, was going to close. "They were doing a great job, but unfortunately they couldn't continue with the business and were going to close it," indicates Joppy, which ultimately chose to acquire the business and several assets from Rviewer.

"With the purchase of your business, we see a good opportunity for your candidates and companies, whose needs will continue to be met by our service with a much greater reach," explains Nico Bour. After the acquisition, Joppy has surpassed 70,000 candidates and added hundreds of new recruiting companies, gaining market share and consolidating its leadership in Spain as a matching platform.

With the new funds, Joppy will improve its platform through the use of AI, a technology that will enhance the user experience by improving the candidate and company evaluation process, in order to increase matching with the analysis of hard and soft skills. Likewise, the company will be able to begin its internationalization, planning to expand to four Tech Hubs in Europe in the next 2 years.

Programmers who use Joppy create an anonymous profile on the platform where they detail what they know and want, to receive only those offers that match their expectations. This way, recruiting companies are offered talent genuinely interested in their companies. Among the recruiters who use Joppy are Red Points, Cooltra, Atrápalo, OpenBank, NTT Data, or The Hotels Network, among many others.
