JOBarcelona, the junior and tech talent event, returns

The congress organized by the human resources consultancy Talent Point reaches its tenth edition in a new location, Camp Nou, with its most technological version and with a hundred companies that will offer more than 2,000 jobs to 10,000 candidates

Getting to know business or entrepreneurship experiences from companies such as Freepik, Innovamat, Allianz, Endesa, Infojobs, Mesoestetic, Werfen, Damm, Nuclio and Gaddex or from entities such as Fundación Telefónica or Talent Ephos is one of the opportunities that the JOBarcelona congress will offer.

This event, rooted in Barcelona for 10 years, will once again connect this May junior and technological talent ---seeking a first opportunity in the job market--- with the national and international economic fabric: multinationals, SMEs, micro-enterprises, startups, foundations, universities, business schools and institutions.

And it will do so, not only with the offer of all the job positions available from the hundred participating companies ---at least 2,000 positions--, but also with activities such as speed datings, hackathons, a total of 72 conferences, workshops and gamifications. "We reach ten years with the most technological edition because the entire business fabric, from inside and outside Catalonia, is in a full process of digitalization, whether industrial or services," explains the promoter of the initiative Marta de Llauder, founder and director of the human resources consultancy Talent Point. Llauder states that the needs of companies have changed a lot and "after the changes that the health crisis has caused in the international job market, even more so."

"While, in the first editions, a decade ago, the requested sectors were more industrial, administrative and general programming, now profiles with STEM training (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and people with social skills (skills) are requested, for a multitude of sectors, but technological, health sciences, industry 4.0, business, logistics, mass consumption, distribution, pharma... predominate.

"This will be the most technological edition of all those we have promoted so far, not only because of the profiles demanded, but also because of the progressive omnichannel approach that characterizes communication between organizations and potential candidates," adds Marta de Llauder.

Companies seek STEM profiles in people with social skills, in sectors such as health, logistics or industry 4.0
To respond to this great demand for digital and STEM profiles, The International Congress on Employment and Professional Guidance in Barcelona also delves into new formulas for personnel selection. So much so that it proposes new challenges to the aspirants: the JOBarcelona IT Junior Hackathon, where entities will be able to see about sixty young programmers specializing in actionbusiness analytics, data scienceand software engineers, who will have to solve a team challenge in record time, making known theirhard&soft skillslive.

The appointment with JOBarcelona will be next May 31, in a new location, the Camp Nou, because "although it seems that the pandemic has subsided, we want to celebrate the day with all security measures and outdoors," explains the promoter of the initiative, Marta de Llauder. The organizer hopes to exceed the participation data of the last in-person meeting, that of 2019, when the congress gathered nearly 10,000 junior candidates, 20% of them international.

Young people participating, between 20 and 30 years old, want to make the leap from higher education ---university or vocational training--- to the company and encounter many obstacles either to get a contract or to do their first work internships. "This was the case ten years ago and, although the labor market has evolved, the problem still exists. Therefore, JOBarcelona is positioned as a neutral space, as a second step after the Saló de l'Ensenyament, to democratize the relationship between companies and talent, and vice versa, and where labor supply and demand are combined and professional guidance is given to young people."

Personnel selection processes have incorporated new, more disruptive systems than the simple personal interview.

Emerging companies

Entrepreneurship has also been gaining ground at JOBarcelona. This year there will be many startups, with very attractive disruptive projects from which "young candidates can learn a lot about innovation, teamwork, business plans, growth projects and product development... a series of essential elements for business success," highlights the promoter of JOBarcelona.

With this spirit, the organization has designed the JOBLobby PopUP, a new space where companies can attend the exhibition of ideas, products and technological innovations by young entrepreneurs.

This is one more of the many activities that Marta de Llauder tries to bring to JOBarcelona with her experience at Talent Point, following the trends that are being implemented in human resources management in companies, in a full process of change. From Talent Point, this Barcelona native and her team have developed the JobinPlanet platform, specialized in university candidates, junior graduates and graduates with higher vocational training, and innovates through Talent Point UB, a space that aims to carry out creative and disruptive selection processes.

This year's edition sees the debut of JOBLobby PopUP, a space where young entrepreneurs will present their projects to large companies.
Llauder explains that companies, especially large business corporations, are increasingly daring in selection processes and take more risks when it comes to attracting talent. "Companies are hiring national and international talent, despite the bureaucratic obstacles that Spanish regulations still present for foreign workers. They are looking for professionals who at most have five years of work experience because they want to train them within the company in collaborative work with their professionals."

"More and more, companies are hiring junior talent and internally structuring specific programs within the company itself, usually lasting between six months and two years, where candidates go through different departments or branches of the firm to train in all areas of the business, with the help of a tutor or mentor," says Llauder.

Among small and medium-sized companies, the situation is not so favorable. "SMEs look for more experienced people because they do not have as many resources and time to take the risk of hiring and training," which means that, although there are SMEs represented in JOBarcelona, their participation is still minority.
