Reinforcement of the Barcelona Metro network. Line 4, the yellow one, will be extended from La Pau station, where it currently ends, to the La Sagrera interchange, which will allow three new stations to be opened and enhance the interconnection between the different metro lines and intermodality, since one of the new stops will be at La Sagrera railway station.

This new infrastructure promoted by the Generalitat will involve a total investment of 375 million euros and is expected to attract a demand of more than 43,000 users per day, that is, more than 15 million travelers per year. According to the Department of Territory, which has just started the public information process for the informative study and the environmental impact study, the new section of the L4 will save 3,860 working hours and 1,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

Currently, line 4 has a length of 16.5 km and has 22 stations; from the Trinitat Nova stop, in the Nou Barris district; until reaching La Pau station in the Sant Martí district, crossing Horta-Guinardó, Gràcia, Eixample and Ciutat Vella. Along its route, it connects with several metro lines, the Rodalies network and tram and bus services.

The extension of line 4, almost 3 kilometers long, is part of the 2021-2030 Infrastructure Master Plan for the Barcelona Area and will allow three new stations to be put into operation: Santander, Sagrera-TAV and La Sagrera; these last two will be powerful interchanges, since they connect with high-speed lines, the Rodalies network and the L9; and with Renfe's R3 and R4 lines, and metro's L1, L5 and L9, respectively.

"This action represents another step in the deployment of the Government's policies for decarbonizing mobility and promoting the use of public transport, with works such as the resumption of the central section of the L9, the connection of the Vallès and Llobregat-Anoia lines of FGC or the union of Trambesòs and Trambaix," highlights Territori.

According to the Generalitat, a good part of the infrastructure for the extension between La Pau and La Sagrera of L4 is already executed; most of the tunnel is already built and is currently used by L9/L10 north. On the other hand, 100% of the civil work for the La Sagrera-TAV and La Sagrera stations is also executed. Thus, adding the executed work and the pending work, the total investment for the extension amounts to a global investment of 375 million.

The studies now submitted for public information foresee an investment of close to 130 million for a 1.3 km section that goes from the current maneuvering tail of La Pau to the large shaft located between Camp del Ferro and Bonaventura Gispert streets, in the La Sagrera neighborhood. The execution of a new open-cut tunnel excavated between screens, about 320 meters long, the new Santander station, and various actions in the two already existing tunnel sections are planned. The new station will have side platforms and a single concourse with access from Santander street.
