The new Ikea store in Barcelona, which will open in the first quarter of 2021, will not be like the usual ones, with a fixed route, passing first through the exhibition area and then through the product area, with both parts including all the rooms in a house. The one on Diagonal will only have spaces dedicated to exhibition and assisted sale of kitchen and bedroom items and, furthermore, there will be no products for sale.
Purchases will preferably be made by appointment and with personalized advice from Ikea employees. You will be able to try beds to see if they are too hard, too soft or too wide; open wardrobes and decide how many drawers you want to put in, sit at tables and assess which chairs are most comfortable, but you will not be able to buy them directly or take them home at the same time, as is done in the Ikea stores in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Badalona or Sabadell.

The first establishment in the Catalan capital fits into a new brand format, Ikea Planning Studio, which the company wants to implement with more stores in the coming years. The one in Barcelona is the second in all of Spain, after the one in Sant Pere de Ribes, which was the first to adopt this approach.
The opening in Barcelona will act as a spearhead for its expansion in Catalonia, where it plans to establish between four and eight more stores of this style in the coming years, creating about 40 jobs. Ikea Planning Studio is already operating in cities such as New York, London, Stockholm or Copenhagen.
The Ikea Planning Studio in Barcelona will be located at number 445-447 of Diagonal, a place where many businesses that have not quite taken off have passed through, and will have a commercial area of 544 square meters.
The Swedish multinational plans to invest more than 150 million euros and create 750 jobs in the Spanish market, with Catalonia as one of the most important growth areas, taking into account that the company's sales in this area represent 23% of the total.
In addition to the Ikea Planning Studios in Sant Pere de Ribes and Barcelona, Ikea has also just opened an Ikea Diseña in Girona and will soon do so in Lleida. Ikea Diseña are types of stores where there are no exhibitions or products, but where professionals help you design rooms and buy items from the catalog.
