Hong Kong once again places Barcelona as a strategic axis of its bilateral relations. The Catalan capital will once again be the headquarters of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) for Spain, Portugal, and Andorra, after having moved to Madrid a few years ago. The first headquarters that the institution opened abroad was precisely Barcelona, in 1966, and now it returns to its original location.
The institution will re-inaugurate its activity from Barcelona within the framework of the Mobile World Congress, which begins this Monday. From the congress, the institution aims to connect Hong Kong's technological ecosystem with the business and institutional community present at the international event, which will feature the presence of ten startups from the region, positioned as a hub for finance, innovation, and attraction of emerging initiatives. In addition, Hong Kong is the main distribution center for goods in Asia.
The organization, which opened its first office in Spain in 1994 in Barcelona, will facilitate the connection of companies from Spain, Portugal, and Andorra with Hong Kong. To do this, it will offer updated market information, participate in international fairs, and work to build relationships with the business sector and the local ecosystem. The institution in Barcelona will be in charge of Judith Padros and Ariadna Casasús, who will be its managers.
The organization has 50 offices worldwide, the first of which was in Barcelona, where it operated until 2020With the aim of generating business opportunities for companies of various sectors, industries, and sizes, the HKTDC organizes more than 60 annual fairs and conferences, through which it aims to facilitate the entry of companies from the leading Asian region.
It also promotes its connection with the business community, through events not only in Barcelona and Madrid, but also with activities in various communities throughout Spain, Portugal and Andorra, which have been organized for this 2024.
The organization has six decades of international activity, focused on boosting Hong Kong's bilateral trade relations. It does so through the 50 offices it currently has worldwide, the first of which was in Barcelona, where it operated until 2020. It was then that it moved to Madrid, to return to the Catalan capital four years later.
