Museums are part of those plans that always find their way back onto the agenda: a new exhibition, a new season, a new visit. Art galleries, on the other hand, still occupy a different place in our cultural landscape. They are there, their doors open, but it is not always so easy to step inside. Perhaps because they still carry the perception of being spaces reserved exclusively for collectors or seasoned contemporary art experts.

It is precisely this distance that Barcelona Gallery Weekend, the city’s major art gallery event, aims to bridge: so that, despite being right there at street level, galleries no longer feel like distant or inaccessible spaces. From September 17 to 20, the twelfth edition of the event, organised by ArtBarcelona, will bring together 25 galleries presenting exhibitions by nearly 50 national and international artists. The programme, however, goes beyond the exhibitions, turning the city into a vast map of contemporary art, with free activities for all audiences and guided tours offering the chance to discover the programmes of the participating galleries.
