Fira de Barcelona continues to break records, not only in attracting and organizing congresses in the city and its surroundings, but also beyond. This 2024, it has launched the highest number of international events to date: it has promoted 14 events, eight of them new, in countries such as the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, China, and Saudi Arabia.

The expansion of Fira's foreign business has been part of its strategy for more than ten years, with the aim of positioning itself as one of the major global trade fair operators. Among other events, it promotes the international edition of the Smart City Expo World Congress, as well as other shows organized in Barcelona such as Alimentaria, Tomorrow.Mobility, which export their model to other countries.

So far this year, Fira has already held six of these international events, including novelties such as the first edition of the Smart City Expo in New York and Riyadh, which join those already held in Brazil and Argentina, which have accumulated several editions. During the second half of the year, it will also take the event to other locations, including Mexico, where the Smart City Expo Latam Congress will be held.

In addition, in September, an Alimentaria edition will land for the first time in China. Also as a novelty, Fira will bring the Tomorrow.Blue Economy event to Brazil, in a growing international activity that "reinforces Fira's strategy and highlights its good reputation in the world," according to the director of the fair institution, Constantí Serrallonga.

In this sense, Fira "exports fair knowledge, but also promotes innovation in key economic sectors for third countries," added the director of International Business at Fira de Barcelona, Ricard Zapatero, who has been part of the executive board of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry since January.

In addition to promoting these events, the institution has intensified the activity of the two venues it operates in China through the joint venture Greenland-Fira. Both together add up to nearly 240,000 square meters of exhibition space, and this year they plan to host a total of 66 events, contributing to Fira's international strategy to consolidate itself as one of the main operators in the sector worldwide.
