The director of Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, Eva Valenzuela Martí, faces a new stage of international projection for the infrastructure, which this summer has reached the most extensive network of direct connections with Asia in its history. Barcelona currently has direct flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Seoul, strengthening ties with some of the main economic, technological, and financial centers of the Asian continent.
At the helm of the airport since 2023, Valenzuela works in coordination with the Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (CDRA), made up of the Generalitat, the City Council, the Chamber of Commerce, and Aena, to consolidate existing routes and attract new ones. Asia is one of the priorities of the new 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, which still identifies a potential of more than 1.8 million annual passengers in Asian markets that currently do not have a direct connection.
With previous experience in the management of Palma de Mallorca and Menorca airports and in the coordination of the Barcelona plan's management, Valenzuela leads a key infrastructure for Catalonia's external projection. The expansion of intercontinental connectivity also strengthens Barcelona's capacity to attract tourism, investment, and business activity and connect the Catalan economic fabric with new markets.
