Elisenda Bonet, CEO of FetaLife, has placed Catalan biomedical innovation in the spotlight of the entrepreneurial ecosystem after the startup won the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit Startup Awards 2026. The award was presented in a record-breaking edition, with over 4,000 participants, 25% more than the previous year. FetaLife has been recognized for developing a liquid fetal incubator that recreates the conditions of the maternal womb to improve the survival chances of extremely premature babies.
A Telecommunications Engineer and Doctor in Biomedicine, Bonet has over fifteen years of experience in transferring medical innovation from research to clinical practice. At the helm of FetaLife, she leads a multidisciplinary team working on a technology that combines a liquid incubator with an artificial placenta to maintain fetal development in a controlled environment outside the maternal womb.
The project exemplifies the potential of deep tech to convert scientific advances into solutions with clinical application and reinforces Barcelona's role as a health innovation ecosystem.
