The director of the Barcelona Food Bank, Elisabet Viladomiu Marnet, faces this August the challenge of guaranteeing access to food for thousands of people in vulnerable situations. The entity plans to distribute close to one million kilos of food during the month through the 291 social organizations that are part of its network.
The challenge comes in a particularly sensitive period, when the closure of school canteens and the reduction of collection campaigns can increase pressure on family economies. Last summer, the Food Bank distributed more than 2.6 million kilos of products and reached an average of 100,786 people each month. In 2025, throughout the year, it distributed more than 12,000 tons of food, with aid valued at more than 33 million euros.
A graduate in Physics from the University of Barcelona, with a master's degree in Environmental Technologies and Engineering from the UPC and a PDG from IESE, Viladomiu took over the direction of the Food Bank Foundation in July 2023. Since then, she has promoted a comprehensive view of the food system, combining social action with the fight against waste and the use of surpluses.
