Few Barcelona residents dare to stroll peacefully along La Rambla, especially when the warm spring and summer months arrive, a time when thousands of tourists continuously traverse this street in search of a terrace to enjoy sangrias and paellas. With the aim of reclaiming the city's iconic artery, and for Barcelona residents to take ownership of it, even if only for a few hours, as well as showcasing the varied and exquisite local gastronomic offer, the Tast a la Rambla initiative was born in 2014, promoted by Amics de la Rambla. A gastronomic festival that this year celebrates its eleventh edition with the participation of 32 restaurants ---among which a total of 4 Michelin stars and 8 Repsol Suns--- and 6 pastry shops in the city, from this Thursday, May 8 to Sunday, May 11.

However, for the third consecutive year, the festival cannot be held in its original location, La Rambla, due to the works that are giving the avenue a much-desired makeover, and will repeat the setting of its two previous editions, Plaça Catalunya, another of the city's neuralgic points. For this edition, in addition, the organizers have also decided to move the gastronomic event forward by almost a month, which used to be held at the beginning of June, with the aim of enjoying more spring-like and pleasant temperatures.

The thirty participating restaurants will offer tastings of dishes representative of their gastronomic offer, but in tapa format. Michelin-starred tapas and small dishes at popular prices, each priced at six euros. A representation of the best kitchens in local restoration, which not only represent Barcelona and the best Catalan cuisine, but also values such as sustainability and local produce. In fact, the only establishment present at the festival that is not located in the Catalan capital is the restaurant of the Castillo de San José, with Román Méndez in the kitchen, who will travel from Arrecife (Lanzarote) to offer a sample of Canarian cuisine, presenting a tapa of stewed chickpeas with Lanzarote scarlet prawns.

Haute cuisine at popular prices

Among the tastings, iconic tapas of Catalan gastronomy can be found, signed by some of the most recognized and awarded chefs. The meat cannelloni with truffle by Carles Gaig, the Vacanal burger presented by Michelin-starred chef Nandu Jubany, the mozzarella, Iberian ham and truffle bikini from the legendary Tapas24, a restaurant with a gastronomic proposal by Carles Abellán, or the classic burgers fromLeña Barcelona, by the renowned Dani García, are just some of the tapas present at the event.

On the list, you can also find more Michelin stars, such as the Atempo restaurant, by Jordi Cruz, with which Iñaki Aldrey will transfer haute cuisine to a nori seaweed cannula with Japanese-cured salmon and soy in textures; or the spider crab, with stew and corn from Paco Pérez's Enoteca (two Michelin stars); or the duck escabeche proposal with red fruits from Albert Raurich, from Dos Pebrots.

Dani García's acclaimed burgers, which can be tasted at his Leña Barcelona establishment, will also be present at the festival.

Iconic tapas from Barcelona cuisine will also be present, such as Casa Guinart's Barceloneta bomba, Casa Rafuel's patatas bravas, Bodega Amposta's Iberian ham, calçots and cod croquettes, or Família Nuri's rice with octopus, botifarra, and red paprika alioli. A tasting of the best tapas that can be complemented with sweet desserts from city bakeries, such as Escribà, with a creation called Patapam!, a brioche filled with burnt cream and whipped cream; or Sant Croi's hot pistachio brioche with raspberry textures, presented by Albert Roca.

These dishes can also be paired with wines from ten native wineries, participating in the festival due to Catalonia's distinction as World Region of Gastronomy 2025. In addition, the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote will also bring their wines with DO Lanzarote, as well as a tasting of cheeses from the island. The Canarian center will also offer a space to experience virtual reality that will allow visitors to travel almost 3,000 kilometers and delve into the interior of the La Corona volcanic tube, one of the island's natural jewels.

Free cooking demonstrations

The gastronomic journey will be concentrated on a large central island, where the 32 participating restaurants of this edition will be located, surrounded by six pastry shops to provide a sweet ending to the day. But the festival is not only about tasting the best local creations, but also about observing firsthand how some of the best professionals in Catalan gastronomy and other regions work, with live cooking demonstrations and free tasting workshops. This edition proposesa journey through four distinct territories during the four days of the festival: Valencian cuisine, Murcian, La Mancha, and, evidently, Catalan, which will celebrate its day on Saturday, May 10.

In addition, some of the participating chefs in the festival, such as Òscar Manresa or Albert Roca, will also prepare some of their creations live, as well as beverage tastings led by sommeliers. During the gastronomic event, there will also be live music, with a wide variety of genres and artists, ranging from the flamenco of Tablao Flamenco Cordobés to jazz or live DJ sessions.

A large central island will host the creations of the thirty participating restaurants.

The festival also repeats the Tast a la Rambla Award, created in its previous edition as a celebration of ten years of trajectory and with the aim of recognizing the passion and dedication of local chefs, and which this time will be awarded to chef Carles Gaig, who will participate in the festival with his popular truffled cannelloni. Gaig stands out for a career that has managed to balance tradition and innovation. His restaurant Gaig Barcelona obtained a Michelin star in 1993, and stands out for typical dishes of Catalan gastronomy, such as cannelloni or veal fricandó.

Tast a la Rambla will be held from Thursday, May 8 to Sunday, May 11, from twelve noon to ten at night (Thursday and Sunday), and will extend until midnight on Friday and Saturday, to offer a day of more than twelve hours of gastronomy. Access to Plaça Catalunya is free, and only the dishes ---with a price of 6 euros--- and drinks, which will range between 2 and 5 euros, will have to be paid for.

Chef Carles Gaig will receive the second Tast a la Rambla Award for his career that has balanced tradition and innovation.
