november 24, 2022 - 00:22

The Barcelona Provincial Council's Natural Parks Network is made up of 13 natural areas of high landscape, ecological, and cultural value, covering more than 100,000 hectares within the province of Barcelona. The management of the Network guarantees territorial and environmental balance in the 100 municipalities within its geographical scope, which represent 22% of the territory and 70% of the population of Catalonia.

Following the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Barcelona Provincial Council plans and manages natural and agricultural areas through special plans, developed with the participation of all involved agents; it protects natural, agricultural, forest, cultural, and landscape values, betting on a balance between the preservation of parks and the economic development of the population; and it promotes public use of cultural and natural heritage and environmental education.

The Network of Natural Parks also provides citizens with information and documentation centers; marked itineraries and guided routes; museums and temporary exhibitions; educational and cultural facilities; hostels and rural accommodations; recreation and camping areas; publications and audiovisuals; as well as courses, workshops, and environmental stays. All this to enjoy, learn about, and respect the natural environment.

In addition, a Bus Park service has been enabled to access the El Montseny Natural Park and the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park, which allows you to arrive with integrated public transport, on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays throughout the year (except Christmas and New Year).

The Barcelona Provincial Council is committed to the territory and to the conservation of the heritage and natural spaces of the province. For this reason, in 2017, it bought San Miquel del Fai and the surrounding 70.4-hectare estate for 1.3 million euros, and has invested 2.6 million more for the recovery and updating of the facilities. The estate is part of the Cingles de Bertí Natural Area. The purpose is to guarantee the preservation of this emblematic space and for citizens to be able to enjoy it. The opening of the facilities is subject to the completion of the works.
