Less plastic and more cardboard. After announcing a few months ago the elimination of the plastic rings used to group cans, Damm is now committed to also completely eliminating the shrink-wrapped plastics that wrap the cans. As of this week, all Estrella Damm beers sold in groups no longer leave the factory wrapped in a decorated red plastic, but in cardboard packaging from sustainably managed forests.

According to the company, the elimination of shrink wrap in packs of six, twelve and 24 cans will mean a reduction of 99 tons of plastic per year, an amount that adds to the 260 tons that were no longer used when the plastic rings were replaced last year with biodegradable cardboard groupings.

With these two initiatives, Damm wants to contribute to curbing pollution in the Mediterranean, where it is estimated that 95% of the waste floating in the sea is plastic or microplastics.
