La Mercè returns and with it the infinity of activities that will fill Barcelona in the coming days. Concerts, events and celebrations will sneak into practically all the streets of the Catalan capital in an infinite and totally awaited party. Estrella Damm always participates in these festivities and does so in the best way it can: with concerts. As every year, the Antiga Fàbrica d'Estrella Damm will open its doors freely to all citizens to enjoy great artists. Specifically, on September 26 and 27, the space will host a special program of concerts integrated into the BAM (Barcelona Acció Musical), with free beer tastings and a great gastronomic offer.
This Mercè is special for Estrella Damm and the company wants to become one of the main representatives of the festival in the 150th anniversary of the brewery. That is why this weekend you can visit the factory to listen to music, as the venue on Rosselló street will host a dozen projects that will allow you to discover some of the most innovative emerging proposals in the current music scene. A program that —in accordance with the celebration of a century and a half of Damm—will be completed with free tastings of its beers and a gastronomic offer by local foodtrucks.
The choice of groups is not random, as the lineup is part of the BAM program. Therefore, it will bring together projects of singer-songwriter, folk, pop, urban music, rock and experimental electronics. All to be able to get a taste of the vitality of the emerging music scene. This diversity will not only be seen in the music, but will also be transferred to live performances, with shows that incorporate disciplines such as dance, performance, visuals, lighting design or virtual identities.
A look at the groups
Among the proposals for Saturday, September 26 are Carmen Aciar, who links singer-songwriter and Argentine folk with Mediterranean sounds, and continues with Angela Blackburn, who presents a performative proposal where salsa, diaspora rhythms, and club electronics merge. Next, Jovedry combines alternative pop, experimental rock, and synthetic textures in a constantly transforming live show, while Admire brings together dancehall, afrobeat, experimental pop, and dance in the same universe. It continues with Cristina Len, a Catalan singer, songwriter, and producer who fuses electronics, urban music, and Charro folklore, and closes with the immersive show by Bofirax, built from analog synthesizers and string instruments, with a careful lighting design.
The program for Sunday, September 27 explores new musical and scenic languages with the duo Llaurar, who build an intimate and experimental live show from their voices, guitar, and saxophones, and with Dolenta Freixura, who joins the lineup with an open-minded proposal that expands the diversity of BAM's languages. Also performing are AL-V, with a conceptual pop project around memory, grief, and the acceptance of death, and Asra3, who combines polyrhythms, microtonal tunings, hyperpop, and digital humor in a creation specially conceived for BAM; in addition, MERCÈ brings live performance to a playful and virtual universe through violin, code, and three-dimensional avatars. The day closes with Maig and their Prou, an album marked by guitars, organic drums, and a new perspective on pop-rock. The complete schedules and more information are on Damm's social media.
More beer to celebrate the anniversary
Estrella Damm's anniversary is also a protagonist of La Mercè, and all those who visit the Estrella Damm Factory can enjoy free gastronomic proposals and beer tastings. In this way, musical performances are accompanied by the various dishes prepared by local food trucks. And between concerts, the public can also enjoy free beer tastings to discover first-hand Damm's different specialty beers. So that a good part of the visitors can enjoy these special tastings, four sessions have been scheduled each day, at 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m., in the Sala de Bàscules. Access will be by queuing at the door before the start of each session, until the room's capacity is reached.
Bogatell, Damm's stage
However, if Antiga Fàbrica d'Estrella Damm is not the stage for everyone, there is also an alternative proposal; the largest one that is camouflaged within the concert lineup of consolidated groups that will perform at La Mercè. Bogatell becomes the brewery's stage on Saturday, September 26. On the Mediterràniament Stage on the beach, from 8:00 p.m. until well into the early morning, there will be performances by Al·lèrgiques al Pol·len, L'Adhesiu, Love of Lesbian, and Svetlana, protagonists of what is expected to be one of the great musical events of La Mercè.
