Catalunya sets a new horizon in the entrepreneurial field: 3,000 startups by 2030. With this objective, the Government will work to "provide all facilities" for the Catalan entrepreneurial ecosystem to develop and expand, as assured by the Minister of Business and Labor of the Generalitat, Miquel Sàmper.

"We want to grow and consolidate our entrepreneurial ecosystem to generate quality employment and opportunities, transform our productive fabric and continue attracting investments, talent and innovative projects from all over the world," Sàmper defended in a meeting with about fifteen venture capital funds that invest in Catalan emerging companies.

Thus, the Government wants to encourage the strengthening of this ecosystem to "continue positioning Catalunya as a first-class technological hub," Sàmper defended at the meeting, which served to highlight the value of the Catalan entrepreneurial fabric and the role of venture capital funds.

Collectively, these funds add up to more than 3,000 million euros in investment in emerging companies in Catalunya. In this context, "they are responsible for a large part of the sustained growth and internationalization of this entrepreneurial ecosystem, because they contribute to boosting the projects of startups," Sàmper assured at the meeting, which was also attended by the Secretary of Business and Competitiveness and CEO of Acció, Jaume Baró.

The Government makes this commitment at a time when the Catalan startup ecosystem continues to boom and "employs more people than ever." In fact, the number of startups grows every year: in 2023 Catalunya had 2,100, 4% more than in 2022, with 20,600 jobs and an aggregated turnover of more than 2,100 million euros.

In addition, the Catalan startup ecosystem expands into multiple sectors, among which health stands out, with 16.9% of emerging companies, followed by business and software services (15.2%), and ICT and mobile (5.7%), in addition to areas such as food, fintech and leisure, according to data from Acció.
