Film director Carla Simón, in the Culture category, music composer Antoni Ros-Marbà, in the Trajectory category, and sailor Grant Dalton, in the Sport category, have been the winners of the XVII edition of the Sport Cultura Barcelona 2022 Awards, as announced this Tuesday by the organizers of the event.
In addition, the jury has decided to award a Special Mention to former footballer Juan Carlos Unzué. In the 16 previous editions, this recognition had only occurred on two occasions, in 2018, with the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, and in 2020, with the former Secretary General of Sport of the Generalitat and former member of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Josep Luis Vilaseca.
Author of films such as Estiu 1993, last year Simón won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale with the film Alcarràs, which also earned her four Gaudí awards and a Feroz award. She is also the first director of the Screenwriting Residency, a pioneering audiovisual talent incubator in Catalonia, which aims to strengthen feature film writing and encourage the creation of fiction projects.
Musician, composer and orchestra conductor, Ros-Marbà was a student of Eduard Toldrà and Sergiu Celibidache. He was director of the Spanish Radio Television Symphony Orchestra, the Ciutat de Barcelona Orchestra, the Spanish National Orchestra, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Galicia, as well as artistic director of the National Opera Theater Teatro Real. In 1978, director Herbert von Karajan invited him to conduct the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been awarded the National Music Prize by the Ministry of Culture and the Creu de Sant Jordi by the Generalitat, as well as the Gold Medal of the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
Navigator and sailor, Dalton has participated five times in the round-the-world sailing competition. He is the director of the Team New Zealand team, of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, current defender of the America's Cup, which will be held next year in Barcelona. He has been an Officer of the Order of the British Empire since 1995.
The Sport Cultura Barcelona 2022 Awards ceremony will be organized during the spring, on a date yet to be confirmed, reports ACN.
