Caprabo closed its fiscal year on January 31, marking a record number of openings in the last decade. The Catalan supermarket chain opened a total of 18 points of sale in 2022, which represented an investment of 6.1 million euros. In total, the company owned by Eroski and the Czech group EP Corporate has incorporated 6,000 square meters of commercial space and made 122 new hires.
"2022 has been an important year in boosting Caprabo's expansion plan in Catalunya, our strategic market", says Jordi Lahiguera, Corporate Development and Marketing Director of the chain. The brand, based in the ZAL Port of El Prat de Llobregat, made eleven openings in the regions of Barcelona, three in Girona, two in Tarragona and one in Lleida, in addition to expanding its presence in Andorra with a new point of sale in La Massana.
Caprabo highlights the investment of two million euros made in Sant Joan Despí, where it has inaugurated its own supermarket with an area of 1,400 m² which has led to the creation of 35 jobs. The rest of the openings have been franchised stores, with a maximum of 400 m² and operating with extended hours "adapting to new market trends". The chain emphasizes that its commitment to the franchise model has allowed it to consolidate its implementation in "strategic areas of the Catalan territory" and also in places where it had no presence, such as Artés (Barcelona).
With a network of almost 300 supermarkets, Caprabo employs more than 6,000 people and has one million customers who regularly use their Caprabo Club Card. At the end of 2021, the historic Barcelona brand launched a new strategic growth plan that contemplates investments of 100 million euros in the next five years and the opening of 80 new points of sale in Catalunya.
