The Government has given the green light to the Ministry of Transport to tender, through Adif, the contract for the execution of works to adapt the Barcelona-Can Tunis Logistics Center to international gauge. The contract has an estimated value of 17.22 million euros and an execution period of ten months. This is a project that is part of the agreement signed last October by the ministry with the Port of Barcelona for the new southern access to the port and aims to promote freight transport and the efficient integration of the railway into the logistics chain.
Located next to the Zona Franca, the Can Tunis station converges the line linking Castellbisbal with Morrot and the access lines to the Port of Barcelona that lead to the TCB or BEST container terminals. The tender for this contract will allow the implementation of mixed gauge on the tracks, meaning they will be prepared for both international and Iberian gauge. The action may be co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) mechanism created by the European Union.
