Bon Preu has closed the purchase of the Danone plant in Parets del Vallès and will convert it into a logistics hub, a project that it announced in November and which the Catalan company has now formalized. The investment to adapt the factory will be around 30 million euros, and it is expected to be operational again during the last quarter of 2027.
The Catalan supermarket chain has opted for the historic Danone factory to expand its logistics capacity and improve the efficiency of its product distribution. With this objective, the 51,000 square meter plant will become a strategic hub for the company, which will allow it to optimize its storage, stock management, and product distribution, especially in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.
The factory will be reformed to integrate technological tools focused on improving operational efficiency and sustainability. "The incorporation of this new logistics center will allow us to improve our operational capacity and guarantee greater product availability for our customers," defended Bon Preu's Operations Director, Joan Sabartés. And the plant will allow "to optimize delivery times and reduce the carbon footprint of transport."
Bon Preu has closed this acquisition, the amount of which has not been disclosed, after Danone announced at the beginning of last year the closure of the plant, until then specialized in yogurts from brands such as Oikos and Alpro.
The agri-food multinational then opened a negotiation process with the hundred workers at the plant that ended a year ago, and which included early retirements, severance payments, and transfers to other Danone centers, as well as the commitment to have priority in the incorporation of staff if the plant was put back into operation by another operator, as has happened with Bon Preu.
The supermarket chain has reaffirmed that Danone's former employees will have preference to join the company if they wish and their profile fits the available vacancies, something that will be defined in the coming months.
