The Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) takes a leap in scale and broadens its focus. The foundation has won a European Commission project that will locate an incubator in Barcelona aimed at boosting technology transfer across the continent. "Technology transfer within the European framework is and will be a priority to position ourselves on the global map," explains MWCapital CEO, Francesc Fajula.

From the Catalan capital, 120 scientific projects will be promoted each year with the aim of helping them leave the laboratory and reach the market. MWCapital, together with the German innovation consultancy EurA, will be responsible for developing and scaling initiatives conceived in research centers and universities across Europe to turn them into successful spin-offs.

MWCapital's new technology transfer area will have a budget of around four million euros over two years from the European Innovation Council (EIC). If the results are positive, the collaboration will be extended for two more years with an additional three million euros.

Until now, MWCapital focused on technology transfer through its The Collider program. Since its creation in 2017, it has supported more than 220 scientific projects.
