Barcelona will host Biospain 2023 between September 26 and 28, one of the international reference congresses for the biotechnology sector, and a showcase for the industry. The Spanish Association of Biocompanies (AseBio) and Biocat presented this Tuesday the twentieth edition of the event, which will turn Barcelona into the epicenter of the sector. In fact, the organization has chosen the Catalan capital because it brings together 45% of the turnover of biotechnology companies in Spain, leading international rankings in the number of startups, scientific publications, or clinical trials, in addition to having renowned research centers and hospitals.

"The celebration of events like Biospain in Barcelona highlights why we have consolidated ourselves as one of the great engines of the biotechnology sector in Europe," said the Secretary of Business and Competitiveness of the Generalitat and CEO of Acció, Albert Castellanos.

According to Robert Fabregat, general director of Biocat, biotechnology companies established in Catalonia stood out in 2022 as "one of the most attractive segments for venture capital and broke investment records." In fact, he advanced, 2022 was "extraordinary" and expectations in operations and investments were exceeded. The specific data will be made public soon, on February 13, reports ACN.

One of the objectives of the Biospain 2023 congress will be to work on health challenges such as antimicrobial resistance or population aging, but also to seek solutions to face climate change, with more resistant and sustainable crops, new protein sources, or alternatives to fossil fuels.

Biospain brings together more than 850 innovative entities from the fields of health, sustainable agri-food, and industrial transformation. In previous editions, it has gathered more than 1,500 professionals from 30 different countries, with more than 200 exhibitors and fifty national and international investors. In this sense, the event is expected to generate new business opportunities in the sector.
