The International Symposium on Electronic Arts (ISEA) is one of the most consolidated annual events in the international sphere, established as a meeting point to explore the direct intersection between art, design, science, technology, and society. As it has traveled the world, with editions in cities such as Montreal, Durban, Manizales, Hong Kong, and Sydney, ISEA has served artists, scientists, technologists, and theorists to share their research, along with the latest prototypes, technological developments, or artistic works linked to science and technology.
From June 10 to 16, 2022, the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) promotes the 27th edition of ISEA, which will be held in Barcelona under the motto Possibles. After more than ten years without landing in Europe, the Catalan capital will host a new edition of ISEA, reinforcing the city's leadership in scientific research and cultural creativity, both nationally and internationally.
The event will combine symposia, round tables, workshops, artist presentations, and performances at the CCCB and MACBA with an exhibition of international artists at Santa Mònica. The three cultural institutions collaborate in the organization of the 27th edition of this symposium, as well as the new Art, Science, and Technology hub Hac Te, the Barcelona City Council, and the Department of Culture.
On the other hand, with the aim of bringing the intersections between art, science, and technology closer to all citizens, ISEA2022 Barcelona and the Hac Te hub have created the ISEA City/Territory program, which proposes more than 50 activities throughout Catalonia. Specifically, the program consists of exhibitions, workshops, outdoor projects, round tables, artist talks, and school initiatives. In the Catalan capital, activities will be organized by IED Barcelona Centre de Disseny, FAD, Sala Beckett, and Mercat de les Flors.
Beyond Barcelona, one of the main extensions in the territory will be Reus. From May 26 until mid-July, Cal Massó will host a prominent exhibition that will bring together the latest digital artworks incorporated into the .BEEP {collection;}. This program also includes the mapping that will be projected on May 26 on the facade of one of Reus's great modernist jewels, Casa Navàs.
Other initiatives to bring the program closer to the public will be organized in Catalan towns such as Girona, where the avatar workshop with artificial intelligence at the Bòlit Contemporary Art Center on June 18 stands out. During the coming weeks, new proposals will be finalized in Lo Pati (Amposta), La Panera (Lleida), El Mèdol (Tarragona), the MAC (Mataró), the Konvent (Berga) and PLANTA (Balaguer).
