Two thousand euros for being the establishment that best pours Estrella Damm beers in Catalonia. This is the prize that the Bar Martínez de Barcelona won this Monday, having been the winner of the second edition of the Estrella Damm Pouring Contest. The Bar Marisquería Ismael, from Santa Perpetua de Mogoda, and the Rustic BCN, from Barcelona, came in second and third place, respectively.
Around 500 establishments in Catalonia submitted their applications to participate in this contest. To do this, they had to record one of their professionals pouring a beer and upload the video to the Bar Manager platform, the application with which Damm interacts with its clients in the hospitality sector. From all the applications submitted, a professional jury selected the ten finalists who, this Monday, had to demonstrate their skills at the taps during the in-person part of the contest, held at the Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm.
Some of the criteria that the jury took into account to assess how well the participants in the final poured the beers were the technique used, as well as the presence of bubbles, the rinsing of the glass, or the presentation of the beer on the bar.
According to Damm, to achieve the perfect beer it is necessary to use a clean glass, open the tap completely and let the first pressure pass; tilt the glass 45 degrees for filling and, once the glass is filled to 3/4 of its capacity, close the tap, then open it again and gently let the cream fall into the glass, crowning it.
The winner of this second edition was Óscar Puertas, from Bar Martínez de Barcelona, who received a check worth 2,000 euros. Second place went to Ismael Barón, from Bar Marisquería Ismael de Santa Perpetua de Mogoda, and third, to Marta Jiménez, from Rustic BCN de Barcelona, who took home 1,000 euros and 500 euros in prize money, respectively. The other seven finalists who competed for the podium were the Bar Punt 5 from Figueres, Barram from Mataró, Frida Restaurant from Tarragona, La Bodega Moderna from Barcelona, Palau Nou Gintonic Bar from Molins de Rei, Restaurant Neptú from Girona and NewPort Gastrobar from Roses.
