Banco Sabadell moves forward with its sustainability plan with a project to install photovoltaic panels at its corporate center in Sant Cugat del Vallès. The objective is to reduce the entity's carbon footprint and promote energy self-consumption. The initiative will reduce CO2 emissions by 364 tons per year, a volume equivalent to the capacity that 18,200 trees can filter in a year.

The Banco Sabadell office complex in Sant Cugat, inaugurated in 2003, consists of five buildings totaling 50,000 square meters, making it the entity's largest work center, which also has central services in Madrid and Alicante and in the corporate tower located on Avenida Diagonal in Barcelona. In 2011, the complex already premiered a photovoltaic installation in the so-called Building A that provides 5% of the consumption of that property.

Now, Sabadell has begun works to also install photovoltaic panels on the roofs of buildings B, C, D, and E, and also in the auditorium. In addition, a solar park will be launched in the parking lot of the corporate center to take advantage of the ample space. To do this, the bank has opted to install canopies that incorporate photovoltaic panels and that, in addition, provide shade and protect parked cars.

The project is carried out with specialized companies such as Sud Renovables, Circutor (solar canopy), JA Solar, and Exiom. The installed peak power will be 444 kWp, with an annual renewable energy production of 586,594 kWh entirely for self-consumption. It is estimated that Banco Sabadell's corporate center in Sant Cugat consumes 11,428,635 kWh, so the percentage of self-produced energy will be 5.1%.

According to the entity, the fight against climate change and the fulfillment of sustainable development goals (SDGs) are already at the center of its activity, and projects like the one carried out in Sant Cugat allow progress in this strategy. The works are expected to be completed in December.
